The PROBLEM India’s Impending Crisis - Education
Education is the key to eradicating the poverty crisis in India. India is a home to almost 26.5 crore school going children. If we aim to create equal opportunities in education for these children, then we will be successful in addressing India’s most consequential moments of all times.
While 80% of children of India study in public schools, are they having equal access to education as compared to other strata of the society? Is the provided education filled with quality? Is it adding meaning and value to their life? Are parents seeing themselves as a part of the educational journey of their child? Will this alleviate poverty and fill joys in their lives?
We believe that we have answers to these questions and the ways to act upon it, since it is within our control.
- We see lack of age appropriate competencies.
- Over 50 million elementary grade students in India lack Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) Skills which are critical to educational outcomes at higher grades.
- 79% of Grade 3 students cannot read grade 2 text
- 74% cannot do simple subtraction
